bye dead aminal

I am just chilling in Panera Bread.. this older woman, wearing too much make up in the endearing way only older women can, was staring my direction and then came up and said "well that is the neatest darn laptop I have ever seen...all white...and with an apple on it...cool" with her hands in her pockets and her yellow sweater and big smile I just wanted to giggle. I said thanks and said (as cheesy as it sounds ) 'yeah I love my mac'...with not much else to say, she smiled and walked back to her booth and continued to mutter loudly about where 'Bob' had gone.

Just add some hazlenut drip coffee and free wifi to that and you've got a pretty 'darn' good morning, friends. *grin*

And thank goodness for coffee this morning! Made an aiport run at 4am and if that kind of sleep disruption doesn't make you feel kind of out of body, I am not sure what will!

Its been a little while since the last post, so I thought I'd start off with some highlights from camping...
~We were really hard core and so we slept in a TENT in SLEEPING BAGS on the GROUND...no blow up mattress, no mat or cushion... the first night, no problem...sure it was about 100 degrees outside and we were camping with 4 puppies and Sawyer did lay on top of the blankets right between Shawn and I and hog the sleeping bags, but all that said...I woke up relatively refreshed and glad to be in the quiet of the woods. I thought to myself 'two more nights of this..no problem'. So imagine my suprise when I woke up Wednesday morning with a shot of pain literally from my neck to my toes. Piper had woke up with a start and rushed over to lick my face- I jerked in reaction and was brought to tears (literally!) by the worst pain I have ever had in my life. I had fallen alseep on my stomach with my head turned to the right and apparently it wanted to stay there. After the first wave of pain left, I tried to get up and I couldn't. It took me a few minutes to leave groggyland and realize the problem was my neck....which was FIRMLY planted in the position I had slept. I coulnd't move it an inch...not toward the center of my body or up and down. So I won't go into all the details, but I spent the better part of the first 5 hours of the day popping Excedrin and lying flat with a heating pad on my neck, trying to knead out of the massive knot that was effectively disabling me. It took 7 days to fully regain mobility. I still thinking I am turnning my whole body when I look to the left, just in case it hurts *grin*
-This is a funny one on Shawn... we went camping so he could fly fish...we brought one peice of chicken 'just in case'...Shawn is not a bragger by nature, but he sure does brag about his fishing...so it was ironic that on our last night of camping, we were so starving we drove to a little hick restarunt on the McKenzie river and ate like we had never seen food before!!! The funny part is, a few days after camping, Shawn went fishing again and caught a fish right away...guess the moral of the story is don't be over confident! *grin*

Beth told me a funn little conversation she had with our two littlest brother, Joe (4) and Josh (2) that I thought I would share with all of you...hope it makes you chuckle:
Beth was walking the little guys down the road to see the piggies at a closeby barn. On the road there was a very dead, very stinky, very squished animal. The little boys of course took note. Josh who is thick and stubborn and rough, just complained of the smell, "U-pee! Beshy" (HE says ew-pee instead of pee-ew) But senstive little Joe stooped over the remains of the animal, which could not be identified. "Beshy, what is it?" (Beth) "Joe, its a dead animal" Joe was very concerned , "ohh... ambenance?" (Beth) "no, we can't call an ambulance, babe" "Hoshpital?" (Beth) "no sweetheart, we can't take it to the hospital" He sighed once more and looked empathetically at the clump of fur. With some final resignation, he shrugged his shoulders and said , "bye dead aminal"..

I love just love kids...everyone should spend some time with kids just for these moments...

Well on a more adult subject, I am reading a book that I'd like to recommend...
Its called "THe Secret Message of Jesus" by Brian McLaren.
I got it a couple of weeks ago and read 2/3 of a plane ride and then felt compelled to give it to the Finnish friend I had made on the 4 hours we spent together been jostled around in the air from Chicago to Seattle...It took me a week to find another copy and I am in the process of finishing...
I know a lot of people don't like McLaren, but I would venture to say most of them have never read one of his books cover to cover and have only relied on the critcisms of others...if you don't know that he controversial- GREAT! just go read the book (if you are so inclined) and feel free to make up your own mind...and if you have reservations, please don't knock it until you have at least give the author some respect by at least READING the book before making a judgement. And if you have read it, I am cuirious to hear what you think
I personally like the guy a lot and feel like he is very insightful, even though I don't agree with everything he says...

I suspect I will post soon sometime about this book...it really has me thinking...

WEll my time here is quickly running out...more later...hope you all are well!

Yeah, little kids are adorable, when they're not little monsters. I help out a lady at my church a lot. Right now she has three foster kids. All of them are brothers, a three year old, Isaiah, a 15 month old, Paten, and a nine-month old, Davion. They are all adorable. Their older brother used to stay there too, before Davion was even thought of. Their stories are so sad. Jason, the oldest thought that love couldn't exist for him at the age of seven, I think. Sadly, he was to much for an elderly couple to handle and had to be seperated from his brothers, which I'm sure only made it worse. Paten and Isaiah were the most unhappy kids I had ever met, though that has changed drastically since they got involved in my church. Davion came to the family a few months after the other three. His mom did some drugs when she was pregnet. I don't know all the details, but he was born premature and he was tiny. For about three months after he was born, he would get the shakes really bad from the addiction he had, but a couple at the church is trying to adopt them. They are so adorable. I can't see how a mother could be like that. The foster mom had a family there about two years ago. The real mom was always around. You could tell there was love, the mom just had some problems to take care of. It was great seeing them go back home to mom. It isn't the case here. I don't think she even cares. I didn't mean to say all that, but since I did, I'll ask if you could pray for them. But I helped watch them earlier this week, and Paten has this face he makes when he gets mad. He stands with his head bowed and his arms crossed. He scrunches up his eyebrows and gives the evil eye and sticks his top lip out. He doesn't usually cry, just gives that face. It is so cute. It isn't so cute though when they reach middle school age. I know this well. I work with at risk kids in that age group. It is fun most of the time, but a major pain others.

I know this is a little long, but I'll say one more thing. Camp this year was amazing. I believe it was the best year for me individually. I was surrounded by this one group of friends. We had some amazing conversations about the wonders of God, why we are here, science, the Bible and just life in general. I guess I never had that experience before because I could never find my voice to speak up. There isn't many of the old people left anymore. From the high school camp, all that is left is me, Jolene and Herbie, but it was still fun. Well, I won't make this any longer. God Bless.
