since living in the city with dogs, i have come to love parks that have special space for dogs...where they can be off leash and just run their little hearts out. there is one such park just a few blocks up the hill from our house...
and THE SUN HAS BEEN SHINING IN SEATTLE!!! it has been SO beautiful these last few days..even hot, really. i have been in some serious need of sunshine, so while shawn was golfing, i took the pups and went to the park. i let them loose and they chased each other all over, barking and have the time of their little lives. with the fences all around to secure they don't get lost, i was able to do some of my own meandering.
this particular park is very unkempt...in an endearing way...so with spring and all the rain as a catalyst, summer has revealed amazingly thick and wild growth... the field grasses are above my waist and the paths once so well worn down are barely recognizable beneath all of the leaves and branches that are weighted down and hanging low. i saw a little grove of trees that i have seen a million times in the last year, no doubt, but as the folliage has come a thick, dark green...well it has become more magical.
i don't know why i have never gone inside before, but i doubt from now on there will be a walk when i don't. i wandered over to the trees and to the entrance i imagined the the absence of branches were making. i stepped inside...branches formed the walls and the ceiling to the best natural fort i have ever seen!
all of the sudden, i could remember being a kid as if it were the current reality and not a memory. i thought of playing 'runaway' (my brother and cousins and i played this constantly...can you tell our parents all worked in the social work field?) and i thought what a great fort this would be...how if it had been in our backyard we would have dressed it up and maybe added a door and a secret knock...
the puppies found me and bounced around and i came back to being an adult....i saw a chair sitting under one section of the canopy...i thought of how much i'd liking reading or writing while sitting there... and then i declared, 'this is my own little corner of the world!' piper stopped barking and looked at me and turned her head from side to side the way dogs do when they think you are talking to them. we packed up a little later and left.
but (thank goodness for picture taking phones) i got a couple of pics to share with you....not the best quality, but oh well! enjoy...
**i am not going to be near a computer this week..we are going on a camping trip and then to a wedding...but no doubt i will have good stories when i return! love you all..have a great week!

this is a pic from the outside...kind of looks like broccoli!
you can kind of see the canopy effect in these pics:
you can see the pups playing here...and how gorgeous the sun looks peaking in through the folliage!
and there's the little chair...where i am sure much writing will take place...welcome to my little corner!
