i wonder if my mom still has that old video we taped off channel 34 of the cartoon "the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe"? it wasn't in that great of shape 14 years ago when i watched it, so more than likely it has been trashed, but boy i would love to see that again...sure it was 'cheesy' and poorly made, but i loved it. it was the reason i read the book in elementary school and fell in love with it...and then fell in love with cs lewis.
i reread the whole series in my last year of college...it was for a class on cs lewis (and yes, it was the best class i took in college...an elective, go figure) i remember being worried it would ruin it for me to read the books as an adult, but my worry was without reason. the stories hadn't lost their captivating magic. in anything, they swelled with it and poured wonder and freshness into my life.
i can barely wait to see the first movie. (december 9) check out the trailer:

we (beth and i, that is) heard about the movies awhile ago and got excited way back then, knowing we would have to wait to see them reborn into the current times with all the new technology available...knowing the wait would be (too) long. she and i had read "the last battle" together about a year ago out loud and we wept- so beautiful.
imagine our excitement then we she was approached about putting one of her songs on the narnia cd!!! she had written a song completely apart from the movie called 'hero' that everyone felt would be perfect.
i was driving tonight and listening to that song in my little green mailbu rental car and it moved me. i think the lyric is probably the best she has ever written. i wanted to share it with you here... also i put a link to an interview she did about the song/movie, so you can HEAR a bit of it too. hope it moves you!
"Hero"
Bethany Dillon
You broke the silence/a break in the clouds/a ray of hope in the darkness
You dusted off the steeples/places full of fear/full of never ending judgement
what is love/without much risk/You were a man of great sorrow
the world that You created/kept You at a distance/You weren't recognizble
You're the Hero/we've been waiting for/ You have done the impossible
You're the Hero/we've been waiting for/ You have done the impossible
the impossible
You bridge the gap/ You tore the veil/ Almight God in the flesh
all the plans and schemes against Your love would fail/in light of Your obedience
You're the Hero/we've been waiting for/ You have done the impossible
You're the Hero/we've been waiting for/ You have done the impossible
the impossible
a baby cries in the night/the earth shook in awe
the echo of a man's cries/ the curse undone
the curse undone/ our Hero has won
You're the Hero/we've been waiting for/ You have done the impossible
You're the Hero/we've been waiting for/ You have done the impossible
the impossible
You're the Hero/we've been waiting for/ You have done the impossible
You're the Hero/we've been waiting for/ You have done the impossible
the impossible
my sis talking about her song on the Narnia cd...you can hear the song in the video...
