ahhh! my bed is full!

so Shawn is out of town for the weekend... its kind of the standard deal that when i am gone, sawyer sleeps with Shawn and when Shawn is out of town he sleeps with me. when we are both home, sawyer gets subjected to being a dog again and has to sleep on a doggy bed in the kitchen. the other 3 sleep in crates still at night so there are no surprises on the floor in the morning.

well Piper just came out of heat for the first time...and to be honest, i felt for her. she had to stay penned up and she had cramps...so when shawn left this time, i decided to have some pity on her and let her share the bed with sawyer and i. it was no big deal...they slept on one side and i on the other.

well apparently jetti and madden decided this was grossly unfair. i put them in their crate, turned the light off, and followed a very joyful piper and sawyer into the bedroom. they jumped on the bed and under the covers and i went into the bathroom to brush my teeth. i had just finished when the two little hounds downstairs started going crazy. from the howling and baying, you would never believe that they weigh a combined amount of 17lbs.

i turned the light in the bathroom off slowly. they had never done this before. i waited a minute, the howling was getting louder and more intense.

i went into my room and when it still hadn't stopped, i started to worry. what if one of them is hurt? or their collar got caught on the crate somehow? i decided to go down and see...besides the baying almost sounds like crying and it was getting creepy.

i decided to take sawyer with me. "c;mon," i urged him to get out of the bed.

we walked down the stairs and into the living room...sawyer following me and suddenly he stopped and looked alarmed. that creepy feeling turned into fear, as i imagined someone lunging from the pitch black kitchen at me. "c'mon, sawyer" i urged again. he wouldn't budge.

i grabbed the closest could-be weapon i could find...a half empty glass bottle of green tea SoBe and forcefully turned the light on. instead of an intruder wagging tails were all i saw. the howling stopped. i laughed out loud at myself and when even the sound of that made me jump, i opened their cages and they bounced up the stairs after sawyer.

they won.

i am not sure even really smart 4 month old pups can understand how to manipulate their owners with fear.

but none the less they won.

i prefered a full bed and maybe even a few accidents to that feeling and having to prepare myself mentally again for the prospect of an intruder in my house.

the little ones layed down right in the middle of the bed and were asleep in seconds. piper and sawyer's usual spots had been interrupted and they were happy about it. they squirmed and squirmed and changed positions until i thought i might have to kill them. when everyone finally settled and i could see noone was off the bed, chewing on the carpet somewhere, i turned the light off.

i have been having really bad insomnia for weeks now, but last night i slept like a baby (a well fed, fat, content one anyway) when i woke this morning we were all on top of the blankets (all those furry bodies got hot) jetti and madden were still in the center of the bed, curled up with one another like a ying yang symbol. piper was stretched out at my feet and sawyer was spooning me...i think just securing his spot as true king of the bed- alpha male- top dog- whatever.

Shawn comes home monday afternoon which means i only have one night to break them of this... one night to convince them their crates are better than our 'heavenly bed' (the kind from the weston)

not going to be easy...

can you imagine how ridiculous i will be when we have kids!??!?! ugh.
