...and your listeining and watching lists too...
but first, the books:
So my sweet friend, Holly, (who is also the wife of the painter on Shawn's tour, Scott) invited me to be a part of a book club. I have always wanted to be a part of a book club, let's be honest. I know it might be a little nerdy at first glance, but its actually really quite cool. The great thing about being a part of a book club is that you get to read books you might never read otherwise. March's book is titled "Persepolis" by Marjane Satrapi. AMAZING. Its a novel that's written in comic book style ('graphic' is the correct term). Its a true story about this women's childhood in Iran. I read it all in one setting.
And now for the two books I am currently reading:
"The Power of One" Bryce Courtenay
I am only a couple of chapters in, but this is a beautiful novel about a little boy in Africa. Its not a read-it-in-a-week kind of book, but the story-telling is engaging and the characters are awesome...
"Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian Faith" Rob Bell
I have had this book for a little while now and actually tried to read it this fall, but for whatever reason, I couldn't get into it. I think it might have been the way its set up...very different from the traditional book. But anyway it caught my attention again last night and I gobbled up 61 pages before I convinced myself that I needed to slow down and really take it in. POWERFUL. I think its a must-read for all who call themselves Christians. I am sure other posts will come from this!
okay for slightly less intellectual suggestions:
if you watch "24" already..awesome. If you don't and you like action/government drama type stuff...you need to rent these...I just finished season 4. Wow. Keeps getting better. Shawn likes "Lost" better...but I beg to differ!
and finally the shameless plug:
"Ripen" is by far Shawn's best record...its getting rave reviews and sold over 10,000 in its first week out! You can get it on iTunes, but the art work is pretty cool too...and you can order an enhanced CD from Family Christian Bookstores. Its good stuff...especially "Confess"..the love song written for yours truly *grin*

Kate- I really love, "Ripen." The music is so haunting and chilling and... I don't even know what! One of the things I love so much about Shawn's music and when I have seen him perform live is the rare gift of making faith beautifully simple. It is so absolutely refreshing and shows me the heart of God in a way perhaps I've not seen Him before, and I think it's one of the best ways I've seen Him yet. Shawn's music always has to me what is humble simplicity paired with a deep, old soul, and this album with such fantastic music in the background just makes my soul quiver. It's a gift for the ears. Okay, that's the end of my shameless plug as well. I'm not his wife and I'm telling you everybody- you must hear this record- so,... there.
someone gave me the book "The Power of One" as a gift when I was away on some training for work as a youth minister. It was a great read and I found it very interesting and inspiring, especially with some of my interest in South Africa, rac relations, and a love for a good underdog story. I usually am not a fan of fiction, but I'll recommend that one to anyone.
Good choice.
I haven't read those books, but they are now on a list of "must reads". 24 is another story. We got DVR so that we could "tape" the first season when it was on a TV marathon. It's great.
